The Salt Creek Fire, which has scorched more than 1,600 acres in northeastern Sequoyah County and southeastern Adair County, was about 60% contained since it began last Tuesday, according to officials at the scene.
The wildfires, which stretch from north of Akins and near Nicut to Elohim City, have scorched 1,657 acres as of last Thursday, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Gusty winds, low humidity and dry vegetation have fueled the wildfires. Officials say residents in the vicinity of the fires were prepared for potential evacuation. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Fires have also been reported in Haskell, Latimer, McCurtain and Pushmataha counties in eastern and southeastern Oklahoma.
Burn bans are in effect in several counties surrounding Sequoyah County, including Adair, Cherokee, Delaware and Haskell counties, but there is no current burn ban in Sequoyah County.
Burn bans are also in effect in Sebastian, Franklin and Benton counties in Arkansas.
