The Muldrow Board of Education convened for its regular monthly meeting on Jan. 13, where several significant decisions, including the renewal of important staff contracts, policy changes, and approval of various school improvement projects were approved.
The board started the meeting with a review of the minutes from the December 2024 meeting, followed by the approval of the 2024-25 school year’s financial encumbrances. Notably, the board also recognized the District’s Site Teachers of the Year for 202425: Kate Smith for elementary, Tracy Ryan for middle school, and Greg Caughman for high school. Ryan was named the District Teacher of the Year for the second year in a row.
Superintendent Roger Sharp highlighted School Board Recognition Month by presenting certificates of appreciation to all board members. Sharp also provided an update on the school calendar for January and reviewed a proposed calendar for the 2025-26 school year.
In executive session, the board discussed personnel matters, including the renewal of Angela Williams’ contract as assistant superintendent/ federal programs director for the 2025-26 school year. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved changes to the district’s policy, specifically Policy DPB, and confirmed the hiring of reserve officers (as needed) for the 2024-25 school year. Shawn Hallum and CJ McGehee were appointed as reserve officers at a rate of $15 per hour.
Another significant approval was the agreement with the Muldrow Foundation for the 2025-26 school year, allowing the Foundation to sell reserved football stadium seating, parking, and banners to raise funds for athletics.
Despite some reservations from board member Dowen Green, the agreement passed.
The board also moved forward with several building projects, including the construction of a baseball field clubhouse, expansion of the weight room, and a new baseball press box. Furthermore, a five-year transportation replacement plan for route buses was approved, ensuring the district’s fleet stays in top condition.
The district’s grant proposal through the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program was also approved, as was a motion to decline participation in a health survey sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Health for high school students.
In a final motion, the board approved several transfers of activity funds to support various school programs, including cheerleading, cross country, and esports.
The meeting concluded at 7:26 p.m., with no new business on the agenda for future meetings.
