Roland Police have reportedly arrested a man in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Woodland Hills area.
Dewayne A. Pledger, 20, who has addresses in both Roland and Arkansas, was charged on Jan. 8 with five felony counts of third degree burglary and one count of grand larceny in Sequoyah County District Court.
He received a $5,000 bond and is now scheduled for a Jan. 29 felony disposition docket before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.
On Jan. 1, Roland Police officers conducted a saturation patrol in response to a significant rise in vehicle burglaries within the Woodland Hills addition. The operation was strategically planned to increase police presence in affected areas, with the intention of deterring criminal behavior and enhancing community safety.
During the patrol, officers reportedly observed a man matching the description of the suspect involved in the recent burglaries. When officers attempted to make contact, the individual (Pledger) fled on foot, leading to a brief pursuit.
After being apprehended, Pledger allegedly confessed to his involvement in four separate vehicle burglaries, one of which involved the theft of a firearm.
Roland Police said the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges may be filed. Officers said they encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
They would also like to remind the public to take precautions securing their vehicles by locking doors, removing valuables and parking in well-lit areas.
The department said if anyone has fallen victim to these burglaries and hasn’t yet reported them, to contact the Roland Police Department.
