Roland School Board delays contract renewals
For superintendent, assistant superintendent
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The Roland Board of Education held its regular meeting on Dec. 9, where decisions regarding the future of the district’s leadership and policies were discussed. The meeting, which began at 6 p.m., included a series of motions and actions concerning personnel and administrative policies.

Board president Jerry Brooks led the meeting, with members Kevin Flurry and Charles Howard in attendance, alongside Roland School Superintendent Lori Wiggins and assistant superintendent, Angie Goode.

After reviewing the minutes from the Nov. 11 meeting, the board proceeded to discuss the contracts of both the superintendent and the assistant superintendent. A motion was made to enter into executive session to discuss these matters under the guidelines of the Oklahoma Open Meetings Act (250.S.307 (B)(1)).

The Board convened in executive session at 6:04 p.m., during which time no official action was taken. The session ended at 7:56 p.m., and the board returned to open session.

Following the executive session, the board members voted to table the renewal of both Wiggins’ and Goode’s contracts. Brooks made the motion to delay decisions on the superintendent’s contract, which was seconded by board clerk, Charles Howard, and the motion passed unanimously. The same motion was made for the assistant superintendent’s contract, which also passed without objection.

In other business, the Indian Policies and Procedures for the Roland School District for the 2024-25 school year was approved, with all members voting in favor.

Regarding financial matters, the board approved General Fund encumbrances in the amount of $89,718.62, and the Building Fund for $58,825.59.

During the administra-Roland tive report, Superintendent Wiggins gave an update on the wrestling program and bragged on how well high school student athletes were performing in their new sport. She also highlighted the success of the middle school and youth league programs to date, stating that the future looks bright for Roland wrestling. A calendar packet was also given out and discussed to update the board on all upcoming events through the beginning of January.

The board did not take any further action during the meeting and adjourned shortly after 8 p.m.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
