The Muldrow Bulldogs captured the thirdplace trophy at last weekend’s Sequoyah Invitational with a 57-51 overtime win over the Alma (Ark.) Airedales on Saturday evening.
The ’Dogs opened with a 60-58 overtime victory over Anadarko Riverside on Thursday before losing in the championship semifinals 45-41 to Sapulpua.
The Lady Bulldogs lost the consolation title game 49-33 to Alma. After losing Thursday’s opening-round game 61-22 to Riverside, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a 48-36 win over Tulsa East Central in Friday’s consolation semifinals.
The week got started with a split of home games with Central on Dec. 10 at Roger Sharp Activity Center, as the Bulldogs beat the Tigers 60-48, but the Lady Bulldogs lost 51-44 to the Lady Tigers.
In the boys’ thirdplace game, the Bulldogs (3-3) rallied from a 13-6 first-quarter deficit by outscoring Alma 40-33 over the final three quarters to knot the game at 46-all at the end of regulation. In overtime, the ’Dogs outscored the Airedales 11-5 to cap the comeback victory. For the game, Teaguen Collins scored a game-high 27 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Jaxson Anstine and Parker Sevenstar with 10 points each, DeShawn Willson with four points, D.J. Massey with three points, Tyson Williams with two obits and E.J. Zanders with a free throw.
In the boys’ championship semifinals, Sapulpa rallied from a 32-30 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the Bulldogs 15-9 in the fourth period.
In defeat, Anstine scored 12 points and Sevenstar added 10 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Collins with nine points, Massey and Jermauree Palmer with three points each, Willson with two points and Williams and Jesse Kilinc with a free throw apiece.
In the opening-round game, after Riverside rallied to tie the game at 52-all at the end of regulation, Muldrow used an 8-6 OT period to get the win.
For the game, Muldrow put three players into double figures, led by Collins with 15 points, Anstine with 13 points and Sevenstar with 12 points. Kilinc scored eight points, followed by Willson and Palmer with five points each and Massey with two points.
In the girls’ consolation title game, the Lady Bulldogs (2-4) fell behind Alma 13-5 after a period but cut the deficit to 23-17 at halftime. However, the Lady Airedales outscored the Lady Bulldogs 26-16 in the second half.
Ind defeat, Kilah Ellingberg led Muldrow with nine points, followed by London Hardin and Kayla Ellingberg with seven points each, Jensi Fields and Emmalee Short each with three points, Chloee Clark with two points and Emma Fields and Gracie Prewett with a free throw apiece.
In the girls’ consolation semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs led East Central 16-10 after a period, 32-21 at the half and 4029 going into the final quarter.
For the game, Kayla Ellingberg scored 12 points and Hardin added 11 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Maysi Fields with eight points, Kilah Ellingberg with six points, Prewett, Jensi Fields and Danica Tune with three points each and Clark with two points.
In the opening-round game, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind Riverside 19-4 after a period and never was able to recover.
In defeat, Hardin led Muldrow with six points, followed by Kilah Ellingberg with four points and Clark, Maysi Fields, Jaydin Dean, Emma Matlock and Amarie Duran scored two points apiece.
In the Muldrow boys’ win over Central, the Bulldogs pretty much led from start to finish as they took a 16-13 lead after a quarter and a 29-22 advantage into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Tigers rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the ’Dogs 15-10 in the period to cut the Muldrow lead to 3937. However, the Bulldogs kept the Tigers at bay with a 21-11 fourth quarter.
For the game, the ’Dogs put a trio of players into double figures, led by Collins with a gamehigh 19 points, Anstine with 13 points and Kilinc with 12 points. Massey had six points, followed by Willson and Sevenstar with four points each and Williams with two points.
In the Muldrow girls’ loss to Central, the Lady Tigers doubled the Lady Bulldogs in the opening period 6-3 en route to a 25-18 halftime lead and a 46-33 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs tried to make a final-period run, outscoring the Lady Tigers 11-5 but the rally fell short.
In defeat, Hardin and Maysi Fields led Muldrow with eight points each, followed by Clark, Emma Fields and Kilah Ellingberg each with six points, Dean with four points, Prewett and Kayla Ellingberg with two points each and Jensi Fields with a free throw.
