Funeral services for J.P. Ferguson, 86, of Gore, were held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at Notchietown Baptist Church in Gore. Burial was 11 a.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Gibson under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Ferguson was born on Jan. 11, 1938, in Gore to Howell Bryant Ferguson and Frances Marie (Allen) Ferguson. He died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, in Claremore.
He worked for Gore Public Schools for 33 years as a maintenance director and bus driver. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of Notchietown Baptist Church where he was the music director and took care of the church building. He enjoyed gardening.
He married Lucy Thomas on Nov. 6, 1959, in Poteau. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2016.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbie and Jackie Dick and Jayne and Jeff Dornan, all of Gore, Ima Brewer of Pensacola, Fla., and June and George Birdtail of Pooler, Ga.; four sisters, Gladys Rooks of Sapulpa, Elsie Johnson of Vian, Zelma Virostko of Gore, and Velma Henry of Sallisaw; one brother, Tex Ferguson of Gore; 10 grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Carol Rosson and Carma Brown; two sisters, Virginia McDonald and Helen Rodden; four brothers, H.B. Ferguson, Roy Lee Ferguson, Paul Edward Ferguson and James Robert Ferguson; and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers were Walter Evans, Larry Chappell, Winford Brown, Rick Spears, George Birdtail and Larry Kindrick.
