“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David” “And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His k i n g d om there will be no end.”
Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth…to a virgin”. Her name was Mary.
Good News: “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; (v. 28)). “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God…And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.”
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David…And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
“… Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
Gabriel: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
God allowed Elizabeth to conceive “a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.”
A Willing Servant
Here is a young Jewish girl who knew that a Messiah would come, but never dreamed that God would use her. Mary was special. We need more teen-agers and adults ready to serve the Lord.
Mary was born a sinner just as you and I were. She humbled herself and surrendered to God’s will, became a willing servant who believed the word of God, therefore was used by the Holy Spirit to accomplish the will of God. Her faith was the key to her own salvation.
She surrendered her body, soul and spirit unto the Lord. “Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38-39). “My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior” (vv. 4647).
The Bible says to “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,” (Rom 12:1-2).
Mary had faith even when she didn’t understand. She experienced the power of God, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and she lifted her voice in joyful praise to the One and Holy God.
Jesus Christ…Good News to the world!
What did God do for us when He sent His Son into the world? It was out of His great love for us. Jesus came through Israel, God’s chosen people. “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matt 1:21).
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:88). What an amazing God! Praise Him…Rejoice!
“For as by one man’s [Adam] disobedience, many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s [Jesus Christ], obedience many will be made righteous” (Rom. 5:19).
Our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great, Almighty, All-powerful, Loving, Kind, Just, Faithful and Awesome God.
God’s amazing grace and love for the human race who had rejected His Law and His Love. Yet, He offers salvation to all who will by faith come to the Cross and receives the “free gift” of eternal life. We were hopeless! We were in bondage to sin until Jesus came.
What a beautiful season to be rejoicing of the Good News of Jesus Christ. For the Christian who is dedicated and willing to serve God it is a life-time celebration.
Christian, lift up your voice and rejoice! Be a willing and faithful servant of God.
