The Roland Runnin’ Rangers and Lady Rangers, who swept last season’s Sequoyah County Tournament for the first time since 2015, were each named this season’s SCT top seeds at Wednesday morning’s seeding meeting, which took place at the Ranger Dome. The 2025 Sequoyah County Tournament will be Jan. 6-11 at the Ranger Dome and Gore Event Center, with the championship games slated for 6 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11.
The boys top seeding came down to a coin flip as the Runnin’ Rangers and the Muldrow Bulldogs tied in the voting. Muldrow boys coach Terry Collins lost the coin flip, thus giving Eddie Lewis’ Running Rangers the top seed, with the ’Dogs getting the second seed.
Stigler got the third seed, followed by Central as No. 4, Vian as No. 5, Gore as No. 6 and Gans as No. 7.
Due to the Sallisaw Black Diamonds not participating in this season’s event as they will be in the Henryetta Tournament, there will be a bye for the Runnin’ Rangers, who will not play until the championship semifinals. The loser of the Central-Vian game automatically will receive a bye into the consolation finals.
The Lady Rangers edged the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs for the girls’ top seed. Central got the third seed, followed by Stigler as No. 4, Vian as No. 5, Gore as No. 6 and Gans as No. 7. Vian and Gore tied for fifth seed in the voting, and Gore coach Staci Simeroth lost the coin flip — thus making Vian No. 5 and Gore No. 6.
Since the Sallisaw Lady Diamonds are playing in the Henryetta Tournament on Jan. 9-11, there will be a bye for the Lady Rangers, who will not see action until the championship semifinals. The loser of the Stigler-Vian game will get a bye into the consolation championship game.
At Wednesday morning’s seeding meeting, Roland High School Event Coordinator Kensey Richards announced that there will be metal detectors in place at the gate of each night of action at the Ranger Dome. Richards also said there will be a clear bag policy in place, and any bags will be subject for examining.
