The Gans Grizzlies ended their 2024 season with a six-game losing streak after losing their regular-season finale 52-0 to the host Webbers Falls Warriors on a dreary and rainy Friday night at Smokey Cox Stadium.
The Grizzlies, who ended the season at 1-9 overall and 0-5 in district play, fumbled the ball six times, mostly due to the inclement weather conditions.
“When you averaged this whole season, we averaged about five turnovers a game,” firstyear Gans coach Gary Hixon said. “The only exception was Midway (homecoming game), and that was a win. The weather affected (the game) a lot. When we first started the season, we were a pistol or shotgun (formation) team, and we didn’t take snaps under center. When we went to Copan and it got cold, and we had a problem (with the center- quarterback snap). We never got to work on the center-quarterback exchange in inclement weather, and teaching our quarterbacks how to make sure they handle (the ball) under center. A lot of it (on Friday night) was just missed snaps. The weather was wet. The ball was wet. Everything was wet, and we just dropped the ball. When adversity hits, we don’t have enough experience to overcome that adversity.”
