Join Cherokee Nation in celebrating the Native influence on the comiccon scene with the third annual SkasdiCon.
The family-friendly event is slated for Nov. 9 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Chota Conference Center inside Cherokee Casino at 3307 Seven Clans Ave.
The event is free to children 12 and under and any attendees dressed in cosplay costumes. General admission is $10.
This year Amazon Prime has signed on as SkasdiCon’s “Hero” level sponsor and is hosting a tent for film screenings at the event.
“Partnering with Amazon Prime elevates SkasdiCon in a whole new way with the added visibility they bring to this event,” said Callie Chunestudy, cultural programs and events project manager for Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism.
“We are thankful for their support and for being a part of an event that helps bridge the gap between Native generations that have experienced both traditional and pop cultures.
“SkasdiCon has made a name for itself in the comic-con world, and we are looking forward to bringing new and exciting content, and maybe even a few surprises, for our guests to enjoy.”
More than 60 Indigenous artists will share their work alongside film screenings, Native pop culture panels and a cosplay competition. Guests can also expect special guest appearances from cast members of the film “Mary Margaret Road Grader.”
The cosplay competition offers five divisions with $4,500 in awards.
Panels include discussions on the “Spirit Talkers” podcast with producers Russell Sun Eagle and Christopher Hill, developing a Cherokee board game with the creators of the Winter Rabbit board game, and more.
