Conventional wisdom often applied to those attempting to avoid apprehension by law enforcement is that you can run, but you cannot hide.
Such was not the case last Wednesday for a man who did both when Roland Police attempted to arrest him at a residence on Gamma Circle Road.
When police arrived at the residence, the man, whose identity authorities have not released, ran upstairs and barricaded himself in the attic of the house where he was staying.
After a standoff of more than an hour, police were able to force their way into the residence and arrested him on warrants from Crawford and Sebastian counties in Arkansas. The man was wanted for failure to appear after he missed a court date related to a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, according to Roland Assistant Chief Chris Waters.
The day turned out to be a twofer for police. In addition to arresting the man, police also arrested the homeowner, who is charged with harboring a fugitive, authorities said.
Roland Police were assisted by Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office, District 27 Drug Task Force and Cherokee National Marshal Service.
