KEARNEY, Neb. — It was a record setting day as 14th-ranked Emporia State defeated Nebraska- Kearney 42-35 last Saturday afternoon.
The win coupled with Pittsburg State’s win at Central Oklahoma moved the Hornets (7-1 overall, 5-1 in MIAA Conference play) into a tie for first place in the conference standings.
Former Muldrow Bulldog Trenden Collins caught nine passes for 60 yards, with his longest pass reception covering 14 yards on what proved to be the game-winning drive as quarterback Gunnar Gundy, son of Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy for whom the Emporia State QB played for for the last three seasons, scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:45 left in the game.
The Hornets will return to Welch Stadium for the first time in nearly a month when they entertain Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Jones Field at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.
