Parents were grateful late Thursday afternoon after the last bus of high school students was dropped off at TheBod Church in Roland, following what is being described as a “potential threat” at the school district.
Roland Public Schools posted to their social media page Thursday that “due to a threat on campus, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was investigating the threat, and all through traffic would be stopped and no students released, until the clear was given.”
Although the actual threat remains undisclosed as of press time, according to reports, Roland Public Schools was notified by a third party of a potential threat through a state suicide hotline. The hotline was said to have been actively talking with the caller and communicating with law enforcement.
Students were told to leave all their personal belongings behind, including their cell phones, to be bussed to the Roland church on U.S. Hwy. 64, until a system was in place for parents to pick their child up safely and efficiently.
Just after 4:30 p.m., OHP reportedly cleared the school campus, and it was announced that students could pick their personal items up from the school until 9 p.m. that night, and again on Friday.
The school’s final announcement stated, “At this time, it is an ongoing investigation and the school will release info as we receive it. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Roland Public Schools, with the direction of state and local law enforcement, have taken every measure to ensure the safety of everyone at Roland Public Schools.”
