KIEFER — The Roland Rangers were denied their second straight win rather emphatically by the host Kiefer Trojans, who routed the Rangers 58-7 in last Friday night’s District 2AII-3 road game.
The Trojans (2-3 overall, 1-1 in district play) led 8-0 after a quarter, but the Rangers (1-4, 1-1) tried to respond as they drove down as deep as the Kiefer 9-yard line, but Billy McElhaney’s pass was picked off by a Kiefer defender, who then fumbled the ball that ended up being recovered by Kiefer defender Cameron Bowman, who rambled 75 yards for the touchdown to put the Trojans ahead 16-0 after a successful two-point conversion run with 9:34 left before halftime.
All total, the Trojans scored 22 points in the second period to take a 30-0 lead at halftime. A 20-0 third quarter increased Kiefer’s lead to 50-0 entering the fourth quarter.
After the Trojans scored their final TD of the night, the Rangers avoided the shutout as Austin Benham scored on a two-yard touchdown run with McElhaney kicking the extra points. The score was set up by Lucas Younger’s 36-yard run to set up Roland with a first-andgoal at the Kiefer 8-yard line.
The Rangers will look to bounce back with a district home game against the Heavener Wolves at 7 p.m. next Friday at Ranger Stadium.
