Roland Lady Rangers defeat Gore, lose to Central
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Roland Lady Rangers softball team split its two games last week, beating Gore 6-1 on Sept. 24, one day after losing an 8-4 road game to Central.

In the win over Gore, the Lady Rangers (1411) rallied from an early deficit for the victory.

Down 1-0 in the opening inning, the Lady Rangers scored twice in each in the first, fourth and fifth innings for a 6-1 lead.

For the game, Kyleigh Knapp was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Addyson Clark doubled with a run batted in and a run scored for Roland.

McKinna Cooper (12-11) got the win, throwing a four-hitter with three strikeouts.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers (13-14), who trailed 1-0 in the opening inning, rallied with a single run in the first inning and a fourrun second inning for a 5-1 lead after two innings.

The Lady Rangers, who will get to be home for their Class 3A Regional Tournament this week, scored three runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-4 after three innings, but Central’s three-run fifth inning sealed the deal for the Lady Tigers.

In defeat, Ariana Acevedo was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Clark was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Adriana Moya was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Roland.

Cooper suffered the loss, despite getting five Ks in six innings.

After playing at Stilwell on Monday, the Lady Rangers will begin the Class 4A playoffs this week at home in the regional tournament. Roland will play Hugo at noon Thursday, followed by Sperry and Keys at 2 p.m. The Roland-Hugo loser will play the Sperry-Keys loser at 4 p.m. The first two games’ winners will close out the day meeting each other at 6 p.m.

The loser’s-bracket final will be at noon Friday, with the regional title game at 2 p.m. and the if-game at 4 p.m.
