It was a tough home opener for the Gans Grizzlies last Friday night as they lost 28-6 to the Watts Engineers at Grizzly Field.
The lone touchdown for the Grizzlies (0-3) came on a 9-yard touchdown run by Anthony Vasquez.
If there was a solace for new Gans coach Gary Hixon is he saw quite a bit of improvement over the previous two games — both of which were 50-0 losses to Keota and Oaks.
“We played a lot better,” Hixon said. “I think we found an identity to what we are about. It showed, in the second half especially. We have to correct a few mistakes, like cover our lanes on kickoffs so they don’t have to return one. We needed to keep the outside contained. If we would have done that (in Friday night’s home opener), we would have been a lot better off and potentially beat Watts.”
The Grizzlies will stay home as they will welcome the Midway Chargers for a 7 p.m. homecoming game this Friday night at Grizzly Field.
