Gans Lady Grizzlies defeat McCurtain, Indianola, but lose to Keota

The Gans Lady Grizzlies went 2-1 last week, beating McCurtain 13-7 on Sept. 9 and Indianola 13-3 on Sept. 10 but lost 12-2 on Thursday at Keota.

In the win over Mc-Curtain, the Lady Grizzlies (7-11) broke a 5-all tie with a four-run fourth inning to take the lead for good at 9-5 after four innings.

For the game, Gabbie Price was 3-for-3 with a double, a solo insidethe- park home run and scored four runs, while Maddie Freeman was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored for Gans.

Freeman (4-6) got the win, fanning 10 batters in seven innings.

In the victory over Indianola, the Lady Grizzlies put away the game early with an eight-run first inning.

For the contest, Price was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, two home runs and four runs batted in, K’Cee Osborn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Freeman was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI and Addy Bibbs was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Freeman got the win, getting seven strikeouts in four innings.

In the loss to Keota, the Lady Lions broke a 1-all tie with a five-run second inning and a four run third inning for a 10-1 lead after three innings. After the Lady Grizzlies cut the deficit to 10-2 in the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Lions scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Madi Pilkington’s single was the only Gans hit off Keota pitcher Jaycee Byrd, who struck out seven batters in four innings.

Freeman suffered the loss, despite fanning three batters in 3.2 innings.

The Lady Grizzlies found out their Class A district fate on Friday from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association as they were sent to Red Oak along with Keota. The Class A District Tournament will take place at the end of next week.
