The elimination of the state portion of the grocery tax takes effect last week.
Sen. Tom Woods, RWestville, an advocate of Senate Bill 1283, is celebrating the tax cut, which comes at a time as families across the state continue to grapple with inflation and rising living costs.
“The elimination of the grocery tax is a win for every Oklahoman, especially for those struggling to make ends meet in the face of inflation caused by the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous economic policies,” Woods said. “
This tax cut means more money in the pockets of hardworking families, helping them to afford basic necessities like food. I’m proud to have supported this legislation and to see it finally go into effect.”
The elimination of the 4.5% state sales tax on groceries represents the largest tax cut in Oklahoma’s history. The average Oklahoma family is expected to save hundreds each year on grocery purchases.
