Central Public Schools is hoping with more monetary donations, they will be able to construct a new playground for their early childhood students.
Central Public School Superintendent David Eads said early childhood students, which consists of students in grades PK-3, PK-4 and Kindergarten, do not have a playground of appropriate height and size for their age.
“These students are between 3 and 5 years old, and they have to share the current playground with older elementary students on equipment that is not sized for the lower age students,” Eads said. Eads said the new proposed playground would be located between the lower elementary and elementary buildings.
“You can see the rock wall being built between the two buildings, which will enclose the playground. The rock wall will have a 4 foot chainlink fence on top of it to provide safety for our students,” the superintendent said.
Eads said the rock that the school is using is the rock that was saved from an old WPAera rock classroom, which matches the rock wall in front of the high school.
“Playground equipment isn’t cheap, but we feel our lower age students deserve an age appropriate playground like our other students,” he said.
Eads said the school has $25,500 in donations so far, and is working on some grant funding as well.
“If you would like to help us with this project through a donation, please contact myself or Mrs. Dodd in the high school office, or Mrs. Cawhorn in the elementary office,” he said. “Any donation amount will be gladly accepted and greatly appreciated.”
Eads said for those that donate $500 or more, their names will be placed on a bronze plaque that will be mounted on the elementary, near the playground entrance.
“Please feel free to contact me at any time, with any questions,” Eads concluded.
