LYNN ADAMS, SPECIAL TO THE REGISTER
Sequoyah County Commissioners have awarded a bid contract to a Poteau company for installation of a water line associated with a county bridge replacement project on Old U.S. 64 west of Muldrow.
Red’s Energy Service, which submitted a bid of $238,310, was selected for the project in Commissioner Ray Watts’ District 1.
After the bids were opened during the commissioners weekly meeting last Monday, engineer Monty Proctor with the Eastern Oklahoma Circuit Engineering District reviewed the bids and recommending awarding the contract to Red’s. Other bids received were from RW & Son of Bonanza, Ark./Pocola for $269,836, and Rocking L Dozer & Land Management of Caney for $250,000.
The commissioners also approved a County Improvements for Roads and Bridges (CIRB) project agreement for Swon Road, also in District #1, which Watts said will consist of “a 2-inch overlay for two miles.”
Sequoyah County 911 sought the commissioners’ approval for an interlocal agreement between Adair County 911 Regional Trust Authority and Sequoyah County 911, but after Assistant District Attorney Andy Williams declined to provide direction on the agreement because he does not have jurisdiction over the two 911 agencies, the commissioners were hesitant to act.
But David Slaughter, coordinator for Sequoyah County’s 911, told the commissioners “my board’s looked it over, and they’re fine with it,” and was cleared to authorize the agreement.
The commissioners also declared several items from the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office as surplus, including a 2012 Chevy Tahoe, which will be donated to Gore Police Department; a 2015 Chevy truck, which will be donated to the District 2 county barn; and eight Panasonic Toughbooks, which will be donated to Sequoyah County Rural Fire Department #1.
For other agenda items, the commissioners approved:
• An updated supplemental operating agreement for detention services by and between the Cherokee Nation and Sequoyah County
• A proclamation declaring May 5-11 as Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE) Week in the county
• Accepting an $18,000 donation from Cherokee Nation to the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office
• The purchase of a 2024 Ford F150 police patrol unit by the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office in the amount of $50,040.80
• Signing of the title sheet for plans on county bridge approaches on 1115 Road over Little Skin Bayou in District 1
• The transfer of funds for District 3 from maintenance and operations to capital outlay
