The Roland Rangers baseball team ended its regular season early last week with a pair of wins over district foe Westville.
On April 21, the Rangers prevailed 6-5 in Westville, then completed the sweep at home April 22 with a 10-0 victory.
In the road win over the Yellowjackets, the Rangers (1013 overall, 5-7 in district play) broke a 1-all tie with a run in the third inning and a pair for two-run innings in the fourth and fifth for a 6-1 lead.
For the game, Arkansas signee Carson Wiggins was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, Ashton Peters was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Resean Perryman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Roland.
Peters (2-3) got the win, going six innings with 12 strikeouts and scattering four hits.
In the home victory over the ’Jackets, Wiggins threw a five-inning one-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
The Rangers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning, and a fiverun fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the contest, Paden Pitts was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Wiggins was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Rangers.
After the Rangers will have their Senior Night game on Monday at home with Cameron, they will begin postseason play in the Class 3A Regional Tournament at Salina against Beggs at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. They then will play either the Atoka-Salina winner at 4 p.m. Thursday or an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against the Atoka-Salina loser. The regional final is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, with the if-game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
