Muldrow Lady Bulldogs softball team has heartbreaking end to season

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs had a heartbreaking end to their season Thursday in the Class 5A District Tournament at Stilwell.

Needing just one win for the district championship, it didn’t happen as the Lady Bulldogs lost to district-host Stilwell twice in the championship finals by scores of 6-0 and 15-5 after winning their first two district games — 15-2 over Eufaula and 6-2 over Stilwell.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the regular season by beating Spiro twice in a battle of Lady Bulldogs, taking the April 15 game 6-1 at home, then winning 8-6 on April 16 in Spiro.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season at 13-11.

In the first district title game, the Lady Bulldogs had nine hits, but no runs to show for their efforts as Stilwell scored five runs in the first inning and once in the second inning for a 6-0 lead.

In defeat, Cailey Grinstead was 2-for-3 for Muldrow. Grinstead (13-11) took the loss.

In the winner-takeall title game, the Lady Indians broke a scoreless tie with a nine-run third inning for a 9-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 9-5 after three innings but got no closer as the Lady Indians scored five runs in the fourth inning and once in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Jaydin Dean was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, Amarie Duran was 2-for-2 and Grinstead doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead took the loss.

In Muldrow’s rout of Eufaula, the Lady Bulldogs put away the game early with a six-run first inning, a three-run second inning and two-run third inning for an 11-0 lead. A four-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Kaydence Young was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, Grinstead was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Dean was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Ashley Price was 2-for-4 with a two triples, three RBIs and a run scored, Danica Tune was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Ryah Keenan was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored and Heidi Mc-Guire was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In Muldrow’s win over Stilwell, the Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit after four innings with a two-run fifth inning, a single run in the sixth inning and a three-run seventh inning.

For the game, Mc-Guire was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Price was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Amaya Duran was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, Grinstead was 2-for-4, Keenan was 2-for-3 and Young doubled with an RBI for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In the home victory over Spiro, Muldrow scored twice in the first and third innings for a 4-0 lead, then scored single runs in each of the final two innings.

For the game, Price was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Aubrey Luttrell was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in, Tune tripled with an RBI and a run scored and Young homered with two RBIs and two runs scored for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In the road win over Spiro, Muldrow made it 2-for-2 as Muldrow rallied from a 3-2 deficit with a four-run fifth inning to take the lead for good at 6-3. After Spiro cut the deficit to 6-5 after five innings, Muldrow got two big insurance runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-5 lead.

For the game, Amaya Duran was 3-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored, Amarie Duran was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Tune was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, Young was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Dean was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.
