The Cherokee Nation is now accepting applications for the tribe’s Summer Youth Career Pathways Program and its Summer Youth Leadership Program.
Applications are being accepted through May 10. The two programs were previously known as the Summer Youth Employment Program and the Summer Leadership Intern Program, and will continue to provide young Natives with career skills and on-the-job experiences.
“The Cherokee Nation’s Summer Youth Career Pathways Program and the Summer Youth Leadership Program are a vital investment in our future generations,” said Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. “By providing our young people with meaningful experiences and opportunities to develop valuable skills, we are empowering them to become leaders in their communities and to build successful careers. This program not only benefits our youth but also strengthens our workforce and contributes to the overall prosperity of the Cherokee Nation. We remain committed to supporting our young people and helping them achieve their full potential.”
The Summer Youth Career Pathways Program pays participants a wage of $11 per hour, with participants working up to 40 hours per week.
Eligibility for the Summer Youth Career Pathways Program includes: • Must be 16-24 years of age;
• Must be an enrolled citizen of a federally recognized tribe;
• All males aged 18 or older must be registered with the Selective Service System.
Those interested in applying must meet with a career specialist at any Cherokee Nation Career Services office. All documents must be completed and turned in before applicants can be considered.
The Summer Youth Leadership Program pays a wage of $11 per hour. The program runs June 3 through July 26, and consists of a small group of 10 to 12 individuals with no income guidelines.
Eligibility for the Summer Youth Leadership Program includes:
• 18 to 22 years of age;
• Cherokee Nation citizen; • Former participants may not apply.
Those interested in participating can make an appointment with a career specialist at any Cherokee Nation Career Services office. Walk-ins are welcome. All documents must be turned in by May 10.
