OKLAHOMA CITY — During championship Saturday at Jim Norick State Fair Arena, a.k.a. “The Big House,” the 1964 Muldrow Bulldogs state basketball championship team was honored.

The top-ranked Muldrow Bulldogs took home the silver ball from the 1963 Class B State Tournament.

With four starters returning for the 1963-64 season, the Bulldogs were determined to claim gold in 1964. Dennis Rogers, Chester West, Gary Condren and Jimmy Estep were all starters on the 1963 Class B state runner-up team.

The veterans showed up in the Class B state quarterfinals against Texhoma as Estep scored 27 points, with Rogers adding 16 points and West scoring 11 points to help the ’Dogs defeat the Red Devils 67-43 to advance to the state semifinals.

The Marlow Outlaws were next for the Bulldogs in the state semifinals. Despite Marlow leading by a bucket at halftime, the Bulldogs bit the Outlaws in the second half to rally for a 42-33 victory as West and Rogers tied for scoring and rebounding honors — each having 15 points and seven rebounds — as the ’Dogs used the height advantage of 6-3 Rogers, 6-2 Condren and 6-2 West.

Now, came the state championship game against Dickson, where the height helped the Bulldogs defeat the Comets 61-46 to claim the state championship and the gold ball.

In the state finals, the trio of Rogers, Condren and West totaled 31 rebounds. Estep led the way scoring with 18 points, followed by Rogers with 17 points and West with 11.
