Muldrow baseball team drops district games to Hilldale
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

Have home games against Warner, Canadian rained out

It was a rough week for the Muldrow Bulldogs baseball team as they suffered a pair of district losses to Hilldale, losing 11-3 on March 4 in Muskogee and dropping the home opener to the Hornets 10-3 on March 5.

The ’Dogs suffered defeats at the hands of Mother Nature for the rest of last week as their Thursday home game against Warner and their Friday home contest against Canadian rained out.

In the first loss to Hilldale on March 4 in Muskogee, the Hornets broke a 2-all tie with a two-run fourth inning, a six-run fifth inning and a single run in the sixth inning for an 11-2 lead after six innings.

In defeat, Claborn singled with two RBIs, while Sutton singled with an RBI for the ’Dogs (1-2 overall, 0-2 in district play).

Reid Sutton (0-1) took the loss for Muldrow, going the first four innings with five strikeouts. After Colton Pullman got the first out of the fifth inning on a strikeout, Drew Prewett got the next three outs, two of which came by strikeout. Jonah Claborn got the final two outs, both on strikeouts.

In the second loss to Hilldale in March 5’s home opener, a late rally by the visiting Hornets spoiled the home opener for the Bulldogs.

With the game tied at 2-all after four innings, the Hornets broke the tie with a single run in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning for a 10-2 lead.

In defeat, Pulliam was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a run scored, Gabe Miller and Ben Cowan each doubled and scored once and Will Stratmann hit an RBI triple for Muldrow.

Claborn (1-1) took the loss, despite fanning six strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Prewett went the next 1.1 innings, then Pulliam got the final out.

This week’s action was slated to begin with backto- back district games against Wagoner, at Wagoner on Monday and at home on Tuesday. The ’Dogs then will play at 5 p.m. Thursday road game at Savanna before visiting county rival Sallisaw at 5 p.m. Friday. Then, to begin Spring Break Week, the Bulldogs will have a local three-way with Vian and Central at noon Monday followed by another home three-way at noon Tuesday with Gore and McCurtain.
