The 2024 baseball season did not start the way the Gans Grizzlies would have liked as they lost both games during opening week last week.
The Grizzlies ended the way with a 14-2 road loss to Gore on Thursday afternoon after opening the season with a 9-1 home loss to Arkoma on March 4.
In Thursday’s road loss to Gore, the Pirates jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning, but the Grizzlies cut the deficit to 6-2 in the second inning on an Gore error allowing Jarrett Frazier and Ashton Langston to score. However, an eight-run third inning by Gore put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, Frazier, Ashton Langston and Josh Brunk all singled for Gans. Clay Martin (0-1) took the loss going the first 2-1 innings with two strikeouts but only allowing four earned runs as the other seven runs were unearned due to five Gans errors. Nakota White got the final out of the game.
In the season-opening loss on March 4 at home to Arkoma, the Grizzlies (0-2) scored first on Frazier’s RBI groundout, scoring Martin for a 1-0 lead for Gans.
However, from there, it was all Mustangs as they scored once in the second inning and four runs in each of the third and fourth innings for a 9-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.
Arkoma’s pitching duo of Austin Northern and Jordan Karich combined on a no-hitter.
Clay Martinez (0-1) took the loss, going the first two innings with four strikeouts. Hunter Walters went the next 1.1 innings with three Ks, then Martin got the final two outs.
The next scheduled game is at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Webbers Falls before traveling to Porum for a three-way with Braggs at 1 p.m. Friday.
