Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane, along with deputies Brian Stone, Shane Petree and Hunter Hutchinson (far left), traveled to the state capitol on Monday for the Deputy Sheriff Retirement Bill hearing, which passed 10-0 unanimously. “We are thankful to Senator Josh West for authoring this bill and representing the Deputy Sheriffs of Oklahoma,” Lane said. “Most people don’t realize it but deputies are the only law enforcement officers that are not on a 20-year pension plan.” Lane said deputies have the lowest pay, worst retirement, and by far the biggest responsibility and work load of any law enforcement group in the state. “It’s nice to finally see some support and appreciation from our state legislators,” he said.
