The Brushy Esports team did another “first” by putting on an Oklahoma Esports League (OESL) Super Smash Brothers Open Qualifier on Feb. 3.
This event gave schools from across the state a chance to come out and play for a spot at the upcoming state tournament.
The event was a One V One, double-elimination bracket and the top eight players qualified for state.
The event had 10 schools with roughly 60 kids plus parents turn out for the event that lasted around four hours.
Brushy’s team had two members place in the top eight to punch their ticket for the state tournament. Owen Plattner was third, and Silas Cook placed fourth.
Brushy Esports Coach Cody Walters said the school was excited about the turnout and is looking forward to putting on a qualifier in both the fall and spring for the 2024-25 school year.
