Gans boys stay alive in playoffs, but season ends for Lady Grizzlies
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

GHS teams split with Midway on Senior Night

The Gans Grizzlies basketball team stayed alive in the Class A playoffs as they split their district tournament games last weekend at Webbers Falls.

The Grizzlies eliminated the host Warriors 58-53 on Friday night, but they fell 58-50 to the Weleetka Outlaws in Saturday night’s district finals.

However, as the district runners-up, the Grizzlies (11-12) still will advance to this week’s Class A Regional Tournament, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Cameron with a game against Crowder. The Gans-Crowder winner will face the Talihina- Rattan loser at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tushka with the winner advancing to the consolation finals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Tushka for the right to advance to the Class A Area Tournament at Madill. One more loss will end the Grizzlies’ season.

The season did end for the Lady Grizzlies as they lost 42-37 to the host Webbers Falls Lady Warriors in the Class A District Tournament single-elimination game Friday night at Webbers Falls to end their season at 7-16.

The Gans teams split their regular-season games on Senior Night games against Midway on Feb. 5 at Bryant “Big Country Reeves” Fieldhouse as the Grizzlies won 45-33 but the Lady Grizzlies fell 43-37.

In the boys’ district finals, Gans put a trio of players into double figures, led by Mayson Clifton with 15 points, Ashton Langston with 12 points and Josh Brunk with 10 points. Caleb Martin had nine points, while Bryce Stevens and Gunner Vanscoy had two points apiece.

In the girls’ district loss to Webbers Falls, Melania Paniagua scored a game-high 21 points to lead Gans, followed by Brianna Burris with 13 points and Aaliyah Taylor with three points.

In the boys’ Senior Night win, Clifton and Riley Pullin each scored 11 points to lead Gans, followed by Vanscoy with nine points, Brunk with six points, Stevens with three points, Langston and Garrett Overby with two points each and White with a free throw.
