Former Muldrow Bulldog Tyren Collins scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished three assists and had a blocked shot as the John Brown University Golden Eagles got past Southwestern Christian 76-65 on Jan 11 at Bill George Arena in Siloam Springs, Ark., for JBU men’s fifth straight win.
However, the winning streak ended two days later in a 70-54 loss to Mid-America Christian University at Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. Collins scored eight of his team-leading 15 points in the first half to lead the Golden Eagles (9-5 overall, 7-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play), who suffered their first loss of 2024.
Then, last Thursday, the Golden Eagles defeated Texas Wesleyan 72-69 in overtime at Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Collins, a senior for JBU, had a doubledouble as he scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles lost 71-65 to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) Drovers at Bill George Arena. Collins had a second straight game with a double-double in a losing effort as he scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Collins and the JBU Golden Eagles will return to action.
The Golden Eagles were slated to hit the road Tuesday night to kick off a three-game week, beginning with a match-up at Oklahoma City University at 7:45 p.m. inside Abe Lemons Arena in OKC. JBU then will return home for a mid-week battle with Central Christian, Kan., before ending the seven-day stretch at league-leading Langston on Saturday afternoon.
