The Roland High School basketball teams had no letdowns after sweeping the 2024 Sequoyah County Tournament titles for the first time since 2015 as they took care of the visiting NOAA Conference rival teams from Checotah on Tuesday night at the Ranger Dome.
The Lady Rangers started the night with a 57-46 win over the Lady Wildcats, then the Running Rangers took care of the ’Cats 66-37.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Rangers (112 overall, 3-2 in NOAA Conference play) jumped out to a 12-9 lead after a quarter, which became a 29-22 halftime advantage and a 42-33 lead going into the final period.
For the game, all five scorers for the Lady Rangers hit double figures as Ryanne Nelke shared game-high honors with Checotah’s Ruby Folkner with 16 points, followed by Halle Freeman with 11 points and Haven Freeman, Kynlei Earnhart and Lilly Medicine Bird with 10 points apiece.
In the boys’ contest, the Running Rangers (12-1, 5-0) put away the game early with a 21-8 first quarter and never looked back.
Roland put a trio of players into double figures, led by DaVohn Hall’s game-high 17 points, followed by Kade Shook and Paul Johnson with 11 points apiece. Mason Kemp scored six points, followed by Carson Wiggins and Kayden Hartt with four points each, Buck Triplett, Raesean Perryman and D.J. Massey with three points and Cason Perryman and Nate Criswell with two points apiece.
