Gov. Kevin Stitt has officially declared Jan. 21-27 to be School Choice Week in Oklahoma. In doing so, he joined state, city, and county leaders nationwide who have formally called attention to the importance of families having effective, customizable education options.
Stitt’s proclamation follows a year of unprecedented nationwide school choice expansions, when Oklahoma launched the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit Act, offering families a transformative opportunity.
The proclamation highlights the importance of quality education for all Oklahoma students and marks the eleventh year since 2012 that School Choice Week has been named in the Sooner State.
“Oklahoma School Choice Week” is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week, a weeklong national celebration of K-12 education that takes place during the last week of January.
For the week, parents, schools, and other organizers have planned more than 275 events and activities across Oklahoma–– including school fairs in Tulsa and Oklahoma City –– all of which aim to spark conversations about the opportunities parents have or want to have, for their children’s education.
More than 26,000 events have been independently planned for the week nationwide, raising awareness about school choices of every type.
“Oklahoma’s growing school choice options, in all kinds of schools, give Oklahoma children access to a variety of educational opportunities,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “We are grateful to Gov. Stitt for issuing this proclamation and highlighting the importance of these opportunities.”
