The Roland Board of Education focused on financial matters, community initiatives, and expressing gratitude for unwavering support as part of Board Appreciation Month during their Jan. 8 regular monthly meeting.
The meeting commenced with President Kevin Flurry calling the meeting to order at 6 p.m., establishing a quorum with the presence of Vice President Jerry Brooks and Clerk Charles Howard.
Minutes from the Dec. 1, 2023, board meeting were unanimously approved, and Mr. Harvey presented the Board Energy Audit Report.
Brooks presented a comprehensive motion to approve various financial matters for the 2023-24 school year, which included General Fund Encumbrances, Payroll, Building Fund, Co-Op Fund, Bond Fund, Sinking Fund, Monthly Activity Fund Report, PO Claims & Warrants, and Treasurer’s Report.
Flurry introduced new business, featuring the approval of a School Activity Fund Account for Wrestling at Roland High School. A proposed fundraiser, a Pie Auction at the Local Show on Feb. 3, was also given a green light promising a profit of $2,000.
The board approved a request for the use of school facilities by the Roland Youth League Baseball for sign-ups on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Superintendent Lori Wiggins provided a comprehensive Administrator’s Report, addressing weather-related issues, upcoming Professional Development, and updates on the youth league wrestling program. Wiggins also said that the new route bus should arrive within the next few weeks.
Wiggins then presented gifts and an appreciation certificate to each board member in honor of Board Appreciation Month, with the meeting concluding at 7:53 p.m.
