It was a rough 2024 Sequoyah County Tournament for the Gans High School teams, who got to host games on the first two days of the event at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.
The Grizzlies lost their opener 69-42 to the Roland Running Rangers on Jan. 2, then 24 hours later were eliminated from the SCT with a 7028 loss to the Sallisaw Black Diamonds.
The Lady Grizzlies also lost both their games in the SCT, falling 52-7 to the Roland Lady Rangers on Jan. 2, then the following day were ousted from the tournament with a 4822 setback to the Vian Lady Wolverines.
In the boys’ loss to Roland, Josh Brunk scored 14 points and Mayson Clifton added 10 points to lead the Grizzlies (36), followed by Ashton Langston and Caleb Martin with six points each and Bryce Stevens and Nakota White with three points apiece.
In the boys’ loss to Sallisaw, White had 10 points to lead Gans, followed by Stevens and Brunk with six points each, Langston with four points and Martin with two points.
In the girls’ loss to Roland, K’Cee Osburn led the Lady Grizzlies (3-7) with five points, while Brianna Burris added two points.
In the girls’ loss to Vian, Burris and Reina Gaona each scored six points to lead Gans, followed by Osburn with five points, Melania Paniagua and Amarys White with two points each and Aaliyah Taylor with a free throw.
