Fire trucks and road graders are frequent requests for young boys at Christmastime. As it turns out, fire trucks and graders are still on holiday lists when boys grow into men.
That’s why they were among the topics discussed at a weekly Sequoyah County Commissioners meeting. The commissioners opened and awarded the only bid received for a brush truck for Gans Fire Department. The bid from Banner Fire Equipment of Oklahoma City was for $138,447.34, and is financed with a five-year lease/purchase, with a down payment of $50,000.
The commissioners also approved a surplus resolution for three graders for District 1, which allows for the possible sale of the equipment. District 1 Commissioner Ray Watts indicated he is considering selling the graders through sealed bids, but the surplus resolution does not bind him to selling the equipment in that manner.
In other business, the commissioners: • Approved a request from Rocky and Rachel Cranford for establishment of a private cemetery, which will be named the Cranford Family Private Cemetery. The cemetery is to be located at Section 12, Section 13, Township 13 North, Range 25 East.
• Approved an application to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) for Jonathan Teague, director of Sequoyah County Emergency Management, to be named OWRB floodplain administrator for the county.
• Opened and accepted 22 bids for six-month road materials. The commissioners expect to award the bid at their Dec. 27 meeting. Awarding of the bid is also expected to be based on availability and proximity.
Due to the Christmas holidays, the commissioners’ regular weekly meeting has been moved from Dec. 25 to Dec. 27. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Sequoyah County Courthouse.
