The Gans High School basketball teams swept the Oaks squads Dec. 4 at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse. The Lady Grizzlies handled the Lady Warriors 46-23, then the Grizzlies clawed the Warriors 63-41.
In the Gans girls’ win over Oaks, the Lady Grizzlies (3-3), who led 15-9 after a quarter, shut out the Lady Warriors 17-0 in the second period for a 32-9 lead at halftime, which became a 42-11 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Melania Paniagua scored a game-high 13 points to lead Gans, followed by K’Cee Osburn with nine points, Reina Gaona and MaKinzie Kimble with six points each and Stevie Pratt, Mafe Reis and Brianna Burris each with four points.
In the Gans boys’ victory over Oaks, the Grizzlies (2-3) overcame an early 7-6 deficit to win going away. Gans had a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, a 27-19 halftime advantage and a 33-24 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies had as much as a 21-point lead on three occasions in the final period.
For the game, Josh Brunk outscored the entire Oaks roster as he lit up the nylon for a whopping game-high 46 points, followed by Bryce Stephens with seven points and Mayson Clifton, Ashton Langston, Nakota White, Jessie Phillips and Gabriel Christopherson with two points apiece.
