The Roland Running Rangers basketball team went 24-3 last season and made it to the Class 3A State Tournament, where Roland lost 6246 to Oklahoma City Crooked Oak in the state quarterfinals March 9 at State Fair Arena, a.k.a. “The Big House.”
The Rangers return three starters from last year’s state-qualifying team — senior forward Carson Wiggins (13.5 points and 10 rebounds per game last season), senior forward Ashton Peters (five, two) and sophomore guard Davohn Hall (14, three).
The remaining roster members are senior guard KeJuan Youngblood, junior forwards Nate Criswell and Jalen Armer, junior guards Raesean Perryman and Landon Killer, sophomore guards Buck Triplett and Paul Johnson, sophomore forwards Cason Perryman, Mason Kemp and Tyson Williams, freshmen guards Kade Shook and Kayden Hartt and freshman forward D.J. Massey.
“If we can put all the pieces in place, we hope to make a deep run in the playoffs,” longtime Roland boys coach Eddie Lewis said.
Lewis said his team’s strength is its experience, but he said the Running Rangers will have to overcome their rebounding weakness.
The Running Rangers will open their season against Inola at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ranger Dome.
