The Keota Lions capped a perfect District B-6 campaign as they spoiled Senior Night for the Gans Grizzlies with a 48-0 win Friday night at Grizzly Field.
The Lions (6-4 overall, 5-0 in district play) had a 22-0 lead after a period, which got stretched to a 42-0 halftime advantage.
The Lions took the second-half kickoff and ended the drive with the game-ending score on a 4-yard touchdown run with 8:45 left in the third quarter. Since the 45-point mercy rule status was in place, no conversion was attempted.
The Grizzlies (2-8, 0-5) only got one first down on the night, and that came on a Keota penalty.
“We had too many injuries this year,” Gans coach Brian Morton said. “We had a lot of challenges from the beginning until the end. These boys stuck it out until the end. Going into this (Friday night game), we knew no matter what happened, this was going to be our last game. We have a lot of good seniors, and we tried to make it good for them.”
