TALIHINA — The Central Tigers remained perfect on the season and stayed the only unbeaten team in District A-8 as they tamed the host Talihina Golden Tigers 41-14 Thursday night at Doc Robinson Stadium, a.k.a. “The Pit.”
The Tigers (8-0 overall, 5-0 in district play), who led 7-0 after a quarter thanks to Joseph Lee’s 68-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play from scrimmage, exploded for three touchdowns in the second period to take a 28-7 halftime lead. They scored another TD in the third quarter to up their advantage to 35-7 going into the final period.
The final TD was a 17-yard touchdown run by Braxin Goodson in the fourth quarter.
For the game, Lee rushed for 160 yards and two TDs, while Coy Blackburn had an even 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Hunter Pack had 87 yards rushing, while Goodson had 57 yards rushing and a TD.
Lee threw for 99 yards and a 17-yard touchdown pass to Kade Tucker, who had two catches for 29 yards. Isaac Rogers had three receptions for 37 yards, Gibby Mitchell had two catches for 15 yards, Blackburn a 7-yard reception and Xhaiden Mosby an 11-yard catch.
Defensively, Easton Girty and Josh Marino led the Tigers with six tackles apiece, while Mosby and Tyler Busch each had five tackles. Pack and Aiden Sainer had three tackles and an interception each, Rogers had two tackles and an INT and Tucker had a fumble recovery. All total, the Central defense caused the Golden Tigers (4-4, 2-3) to commit four turnovers.
