EMPORIA, Kan. — Former Muldrow quarterback Braden Gleason was 42-of-49 for 421 yards with four touchdowns and the Hornet defense had five sacks as 25th-ranked Emporia State Hornets defeated Washburn 38-23 in the 119th edition of the Turnpike Tussle on Saturday afternoon in Welch Stadium. It was Gleason’s second 400yard passing game of the season, and his performance earned him his second MIAA Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Three of the four first-half TDs were off the arm of Gleason, who hit Tyler Kahmann on a 39-yard pass in the first quarter and a 32-yard pass to Tommy Zimmerman and a 1-yard pass to Jaylen Varner in the second quarter as the Hornets (5-2 overall, 4-2 in MIAA Conference play) had a 28-10 halftime lead.
Gleason’s final touchdown pass came in the final period on a 15-yard TD pass to Kahmann.
Former Muldrow Bulldog Trenden Collins had four catches for 20 yards in Saturday’s win.
