Roland Public Schools’ campus-wide ‘truck or treat’ set for October 30
The Roland Board of Education held its regular meeting on Oct. 9, where several key matters were discussed and resolved.
One of the significant topics of discussion revolved around the number of transfer students the district can accommodate at each grade level, for every school site, within the district.
The following transfer student limits were established, with all board members voting in favor:
• Kindergarten: 40
• First Grade: 60
• Second Grade: 75
•Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grades: 60
• Ninth Grade: 85
• 10th and 11th Grade: 60
• 12th Grade: 80
The schools’ Gifted and Talented Program for the upcoming year was presented for the board’s approval. The program’s proposal was reviewed and deemed fit for implementation. President Kevin Flury moved to approve the program, and vice president Jerry Brooks seconded the motion. The board unanimously voted in favor of its implementation.
Theboardalsodeliberatedon the 2023-24 budget. Utah Everett initiated the motion to approve the budget, emphasizing its importance for the district’s operations in the coming year. Brooks seconded the motion, and once again, the entire board was in unanimous agreement. The approved budget, designated as “20030: 4.5270200,” will provide the necessary financial framework to support the educational needs of the Roland School District.
Superintendent Lori Wiggins gave a quick rundown of the month’s calendar of events, highlighting parent/teacher conferences, professional development opportunities, fall break, and a campus-wide “truck or treat” on Oct. 30.
She also presented the board with a written letter from Mr. Harvey to introduce everyone to the new energy savings audit program. According to meeting minutes, the letter is being shared with all administrators and staff to explain the program and its goals; and monthly communication will be distributed throughout the district as well. She also discussed the option to utilize a money market account for district funds.
Following an executive session, the board reconvened and returned to open session.
The board members then unanimously voted to hire Amber Linson as a cafeteria cook, and Alisha Prewett and Tabitha Raney as paraprofessionals.
Also approved during the meeting was the participation agreement among the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Public Consulting Group, Inc., and the school district for the 2023-24 school year; activity fund requests and financial matters.
