ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Despite former Muldrow Bulldog quarterback Braden Gleason throwing for 363 yards and two touchdowns, the Emporia State University Hornets lost 34-31 to the host Missouri Western Griffons on Saturday.
Down 24-6 at halftime, the Hornets (4-1 overall, 3-1 in MIAA Conference play) outscored the Griffons 25-10 in the second half, and actually tied the game at 31-all with 46 seconds left on Caden Dodson’s 24-yard field goal with 46 seconds left in regulation.
The Griffons broke the tie on Cody Watson’s 41-yard field goal with 41 seconds remaining in the game for the game-winner.
Gleason hit Jaylen Varner for a 25-yard TD pass for the game’s first score, then connected for a 2-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Kahmann in the final period.
Gleason also rushed for 55 yards, while Trenden Collins caught a Gleason pass for nine yards.
