Then suffer sweep by Red Oak in district tournament to see season conclude
The 2023 fast-pitch softball season came to a close for the Gans Lady Grizzlies last week.
After the Lady Grizzlies fell 13-3 in their regular-season finale Sept. 18 at Webbers Falls, they were swept by identical 14-0 scores in the Class A District Tournament at Red Oak by the host Lady Eagles.
The Lady Grizzlies end the season at 1-16.
In the opener, the Lady Eagles (21-11), who will advance to this week’s Class A Regional Tournament, scored all 14 runs in the first inning.
The Lady Grizzlies were no-hit by Red Oak pitching in Game 1.
Brianna Burris (1-12) took the loss, despite getting a strikeout in two innings.
In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and nine runs in the second inning for a 14-0 lead.
Once again, the Lady Grizzlies were no-hit by Red Oak pitching. Reina Gaona (0-4) took the loss.
In the regular-season finale loss to Webbers Falls, the Lady Warriors (2-14) snapped an 11game losing streak with the home victory.
Trailing 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Warriors scored five runs in their half of the frame to take the lead for good at 5-1. A six-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the game, Taralynn Colston was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Bridgette Baer was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs, Ricki Frazier doubled with three RBIs and two runs scored and Savannah Frazier doubled with two RBIs for Webbers Falls.
Maddie Raskey got the win, striking out two batters in three innings and throwing a twohitter.
In defeat, Burris tripled and scored twice and Stevie Pratt singled with an RBI for the Lady Grizzlies. Burris (took the loss, getting a strikeout in 2.2 innings.
