Sequoyah County Commissioners approved a bid for a fire department training facility contingent on the district attorney’s approval Monday along with discussions and action on a few other items.
The bid for $179,215 was awarded to IPS, a local construction company which will improve and expand the current facility located north of town. If tax exempt, the amount will be $174,634, according to the bid.
Opened also was a bid of $231,825 for construction of a 55-foot span bridge to replace the existing bridge located south of Muldrow for District. 1. Sequoyah County Dist. 1 Commissioner Ray Watts said the bridge is located in the “bottoms” in Moffett and is in need of replacement. The item was tabled to allow Watts time to look it over.
Heath Orbanek, fire chief for Rural Fire Protection Dist. 1, said he just returned from fighting fires in Northern California. Orbanek said he was gone for 18 days and fires which destroyed over 84,000 acres were still burning when he left. Orbanek said currently there is no fire ban in Sequoyah County. However there was a grass fire which burned out of control and destroyed a building and contents, Saturday, near Gore.
