WARNER — The Central Lady Tigers went 2-1 in the 2023 Connors State College Classic, which took place Sept. 12.
The one loss Central suffered on the day was to its county rival Gore 12-8, but the Lady Tigers defeated Weleetka 17-5 and Porter Consolidated 22-1.
In Gore’s win over Central, the Lady Pirates (9-14) broke a 6-all tie with a five-run third inning and a single run in the fourth inning for a 12-6 lead after four innings.
For the game, Sophie O’Connor was 2-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in, while Paige Curran singled with four RBIs and a run scored for Gore.
In defeat, Allie Harris, Camryn Gilliam, Avery Warner, Melanie Caughman, Rylee Rowland and Kallie Henning each singled for the Lady Tigers (6-21).
In Central’s win over Weleetka, after the Lady Outlaws took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Tigers put away the game with a 10-run first inning for a 10-1 lead.
For the game, Avery Warner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Ayrland Jiles was 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI. Jiles got the win, fanning five batters in three innings.
In Central’s victory over Porter Consolidated, after the Lady Pirates scored once in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, the Lady Tigers responded with a seven-run first inning and a 15-run second inning for a 22-1 lead after two innings to put the game into run-rule status.
For the game, Jiles doubled with three runs scored and two RBIs, Gilliam singled with five RBIs and two runs scored and Keeley Poindexter doubled with three runs scored and an RBI.
Jiles got the win, striking out three batters in two innings.
