The Cherokee National Holiday, which occurs this year from Sept. 1 to 3, commemorates the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Nation Constitution. It is an annual celebration of the shared history and heritage that draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. The 71st annual theme is “Building our Nation, Strengthening our Sovereignty.” The theme and art were created and designed to honor Cherokee Nation as a sovereign nation and to proclaim that Cherokees are a traditional people driving progress in a modern world and looking toward the future.
