OAKS — A second-half rally fell short for the Gans Grizzlies as they lost their 2023 football season opener 30-28 to host Oaks.
The Grizzlies (0-1) fell behind 24-12 at halftime, but outscored the opposition 16-6 in the second half.
“We started looking good in the fourth quarter,” Gans coach Brian Morton said. “The first three quarters, we were just spinning our wheels. We started speeding up the tempo in the fourth quarter, and we saw a new fire get lit. I hope we can continue the next game (against Weleetka at 7 p.m. Friday in the home opener at Grizzly Field) the way we finished that game.”
Caiden Kennedy scored two touchdowns on runs of 30 and 20 yards, while Clay Martinez also had two TDs — one on a 30-yard run and the other on a 40-yard pass from Hunter Walters.
