Muldrow Lady Bulldogs defeat Sallisaw

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs went 2-1 last week, including a win over a county and district rival.

The Lady Bulldogs won its cross-county district match-up Thursday afternoon at Sallisaw, knocking off the Lady Black Diamonds 8-3 for their first district win of the season after losing their district opener 12-1 to Broken Bow on Aug. 15 at home.

The Lady Bulldogs snapped their fourgame losing streak that started the weekend prior at the Broken Arrow Tournament with a 9-3 home win over Keota on Aug. 14.

In the win over Sallisaw, the Lady Bulldogs (4-5 overall, 1-1 in district play) scored in each of the first four innings, which was capped by Kaydence Young’s tworun, fourth-inning home run for an 8-0 lead for Muldrow.

For the game, Annalyse Sutton was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, Danica Tune was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Young hit a two-run homer and scored once for Muldrow.

Jaydin Dean (3-4) got the win, getting four strikeouts in seven innings.

In the win over Keota, the Lady Bulldogs jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Amaya Duran, Amarie Duran and Jaydin Dean, along with a wild pitch. Another wild pitch in the second inning allowed Ashley Price to come in from third base for a 5-0 advantage.

After the Lady Lions scored their first run in the fourth inning, Dean’s two-run triple in the fifth inning made it 7-1 in Muldrow’s favor. Dean scored on a wild pitch for an 8-1 advantage.

The Durans teamed up once more in the sixth inning as each Amaya and Amarie Duran hit RBI singles for a 9-1 lead for the Lady Bulldogs.

For the game, Amaya Duran was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Amarie Duran was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Dean was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored and Price doubled and scored once for Muldrow.

Young (1-0) got her first win of the season, striking out eight batters.

In the loss to Broken Bow, the Lady Savages had an 1-0 lead after an inning, which became a 7-0 advantage by the second inning and an 8-0 lead after three innings to take control of the game.

The lone run for the Lady Bulldogs scored their lone run in the fourth inning on Dean’s RBI single.

For the loss, Young was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while Amaya Duran doubled for Muldrow. Dean took the loss as she had two strikeouts.

Friday afternoon’s home game against Fort Gibson was canceled.
