The person authorities believe was involved in an officer-related shooting early Saturday morning in Roland is reportedly in custody at another facility on an unrelated offense, according to police reports.
Authorities reported around 4 a.m. Saturday that a patrol officer stopped to assist a motorist on Ray Fine Blvd. that looked to be having mechanical issues. When the officer exited his patrol unit, a man reportedly exited the other vehicle and started walking toward the bay of the front engine, firing about eight shots at the officer. Fortunately, the officer was not struck by the gunfire.
The man then fled into a wooded area near Highway 64 and a perimeter was set up by police. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the department in the investigation, and details of the suspect’s arrest and capture were not released as of press time.
The Roland Police Department said there is currently no threat to the public and more information will be released as it becomes available.
