DES MOINES, Iowa — Central Public Schools sixth-grader Emma Baggs finished in the top 15 at the 2023 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics on Saturday.
B aggs finished 13th out of 35 total athletes in the pentathlon — the high jump, long jump, shot put, 100-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run — in the Age 13-and-younger division in which there were not only United States athletes but those from Puerto Rico as well.
Baggs set personal records in the 800-meter run, the 100-meter hurdles and the shot put.
Baggs not only raised her overall score from the regional meet earlier this summer in Yukon by 178 points, she also made the AAU All-American Second Team.
